Boisar is located 45 km north of Virar on the Western Railway line of Mumbai Suburban Railway To reach Boisar, one can catch Shuttle/MEMU trains from Virar. Long Distance trains also stop. By Road, it can be reached from National Highway NH-4, 22 km off from Pelhar Phata. There are regular state transport buses from Palghar, Thane, Bhiwandi and Wada.
Nuclear Power Station
Asia's first nuclear power plant, Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS), is located 12km away from Boisar. There are four units currently operational at this location. Two units, named 1&2 are the oldest commercial nuclear reactors in India. These two units are of Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) type. These were commissioned in 1969 to generate 200MWe each, but have been since derated to 160MWe each. The other two units (3&4) were put in service in 2005 and generate 540MWe each. The newer units of 3&4 are indigenously built and are largest Pressurized Heavy Water (PHWR) reactors built in India
Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (B.A.R.C) is also located close by. This location consists of the waste immobilisation plant and the fuel reprocessing plant.
